September Journal

The September Journal - with the theme of World War 1 - has been uploaded to the Journal Archive in the Resources Area.  Fully paid up Members of the Society can view the Journal by logging in to the Members only Area.

An Index to the Articles is also available.

For this edition we asked for your family stories, accounts, records and photographs that had WW1 connections, and we had so many in response that we have had to hold some back with the promise that they be kept on file for future editions.

Therefore we hope you will find the selection printed as interesting as we did.  Here are family stories of heroism and duty by ordinary people caught up in extraordinary circumstances, many leading to sadness and tragedy.  The letters give first-hand accounts of what it was like to be in the front-line action, and serve as a reminder that the war was truly a world war, not just fought in the trenches of Europe.

Included also is some useful information available from Glamorgan Archives for those who wish to have further information on their family members during the Great War, with particular reference to those who were present at Mametz Wood, and we print a poem about Mametz alongside it, written by a serving soldier from Pontycymmer.
