This event is being rescheduled to a later date.

Crowd-sourcing simply means using technology to provide a modern element to the maxim “Many hands make light work.” In this presentation, we will explore crowd-sourcing before the Internet all the way to modern massive database creation projects. We will focus on how GFHS members can participate in crowd-sourcing to build our on-line data to drive membership growth and enhance our organization's sustainability.

In addition to a typical presentation format, we will survey (live) crowd-sourced options from individual data entry through AI-generated transcription and descriptions that still require human editing.

We will review a list of opportunities for GFHS members to participate in projects designed to increase our available data, much of which is not available elsewhere on-line.

Our speaker: Ms Billie McNamara

Billie McNamara has been a family and local historian for many decades and a member of Glamorgan Family History Society since its founding. In 2024, she was appointed Webmaster for GFHS and is keen to develop the site for members’ benefit.

Billie is the founder and current Chair of the TNGenWeb Project, an affiliate of the USGenWeb Project. Billie began collaborating in pen-and-paper collaborative projects in the 1980’s and logically expanded to digital crowd-sourcing in the Internet era.
